Mediation

Both parties engage us jointly. We take no side, and the outcome stays in your hands rather than a judge's.

What a mediator actually does

A mediator does not decide who is right. The role is to run a structured conversation in which both parties can test their position against what a court would realistically do, and then reach an agreement they can both live with.

That reality-testing is the part that moves matters. Most disputes persist because each side privately believes their case is stronger than it is. Set both positions against the likely outcome, the cost of getting there, and the time it will take, and the gap between them usually narrows quickly.

Anything said in the mediation is confidential and without prejudice. If the matter does not settle, nothing discussed on the day can be used against either party later.

An inclusive, trauma-informed process

Adjustments are made so that everyone can take part feeling safe and supported. That may mean keeping the parties in separate rooms for the whole day, adjusting the pacing, allowing a support person, or running the mediation online rather than face to face.

How the day is structured

  1. 1

    Initial conversation

A short call with each party, at no charge, to check that mediation suits the matter and that there is no conflict.

  2. 2

    Invitation and agreement

Once both parties are willing, an Invitation and Agreement to Mediate is sent. It sets out confidentiality, costs, and how the day will run.

  3. 3

    Intake

A private pre-mediation session with each party to understand the position, the priorities, and anything needed for the day to work.

  4. 4

    The mediation

A full day, in Sydney or online. Joint and private sessions as the matter requires, with each position tested against likely outcomes.

  5. 5

    Agreement

Where the matter settles, the terms are drafted and signed on the day, so nobody leaves relying on memory or goodwill.
